You don’t have to be handy with the sewing machine to get involved, there are many different ways you can contribute.
The best place to start is to contact the State SandsQ Butterfly Coordinator, Lyndell, at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out what is currently needed.
The SandsQ Butterfly memory bag program is a Queensland wide program and while we would welcome support and sponsorship from bigger businesses, we also welcome support and sponsorship at a more local level from smaller businesses and individuals.
Follow us on Facebook to keep updated and help us reach out to others at SandsQ Butterfly.
How to become involved;
Sands Queensland makes the bag to specific design and material. If you would like to become a Butterfly Coordinator in your area and help distribute the memory bag and outfits locally, please contact the State Butterfly Coordinator.
Sponsorship of Supplies
We are always in need of other items to help keep us getting supplies out. A donation can be made to buy supplies or you can purchase them yourself and have the items sent to us. Check in with the State Butterfly Coordinator for current needs and postage address.
Other items needed for the memory bags are;
- white wash cloths and white baby blankets
- satin ribbon – 10mm, preferably white, but other soft baby pastel colours welcome.
- sponsorship for printing costs or donation of printing paper
- clear plastic ziplock bags – 20x28cm and 40x28cm (can purchase here)
- Australia Post prepaid post satchels – buy online and have sent directly to us Aus Post
All guidelines and patterns are found at the link above. We work closely with hospitals to provide appropriate clothing to meet the specific needs of these tiny babies, we do appreciate the guidelines being followed so we can provide a consistent, reliable supply to hospitals.
Blankets of various sizes are needed. Please refer to the Guidelines and Patterns link.
Donation of material
Material is always appreciated. Cotton (soft, non flimsy or see through) or flannelette in soft pastel baby colours. If you do choose a material with a print on it, please make sure it is a soft and delicate pattern. The outfits made are very small and bright large patterns can be overwhelming, we want the focus to remain with the tiny, delicate baby. White flannelette is always needed.
Indigenous print material in bright bold colours, check in with us to find out our needs.
Examples of material can be seen HERE
Other sewing items needed
Cotton thread in matching colours for fabric (particularly white), matching satin ribbon (10mm wide), interfacing.
